Audra Walsh

President and CEO

Audra B. Walsh, PE graduated from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology with a B.Sc. in Mine Engineering.  During her studies, Audra worked at Powder River Coal as an Assistant engineer, and interned at Walnut Creek Mining Company in Texas as an Assistant Engineer / Head Surveyor. 

Foundation

After graduating, Audra joined Asarco Ray Mine as a Pit Supervisor, holding the roles as Dispatcher, Supervisor and Senior Supervisor.  She also led the heap leach crew as Senior Supervisor. In 1996, an engineering position as production engineer opened up at the Twin Creeks Mine in Winnemucca, NV which allowed Audra to utilize her production and survey experience.  In 1997, Audra moved across the valley to Lone Tree Mine, where she held roles as production engineer, ore control engineer and long term planner responsible for life of mine and reserves.  Audra also helped start up Trenton Canyon, a small remote mine site under Lone Tree supervision.

Indonesia

At the end of 1998, Audra moved to Sumbawa, Indonesia as the projects engineer for Batu Hijau Mine, which was under construction.  Batu was a great learning experience, as the mine feasibility was completed at $400 gold and $1.00 copper and the prices in 1999 were significantly lower, creating a lot of pressure to redesign and improve the economical profile through mine planning.  Due to the tight economical nature, Audra became intertwined with the financial modeling/business planning group to create the best mining through concentrate shipment payment plans.  Within 2 years she was promoted to the position of Senior Supervisor Long Term Department, responsible for reserve and resources, project management and coordinating the strategy for life-of-mine from exploration to concentrate sales.

Peru

In late 2004, she relocated to Cajamarca Peru, and served as the Superintendent of the Long Term Department.  As  Superintendent she was tasked with supervising the development  of the ultimate pit, phases, leach pad, and dump designs while  adhering to geotechnical, hydrological and efficiency constraints,  as well as, supervising and compiling the LOM budget plans and  coordinating monthly meetings within the group to discuss  safety, social, and HR related issues ensuring compliance with  safety, environmental and social commitments.  In 2006 she was promoted to Engineering Manager, Mine Operations.  As Engineering Manager, she was challenged with overseeing  130+  person team of engineers at a 200 million tonne per annum mine in Peru, with a $40M CAPEX and $8M operating budget.  Scope of responsibilities included mine design optimization, short and long term planning, block modeling, ore control, geotechnical, hydrology, civil, drill and blast and other related tasks.  She supported in-country projects (Conga) and other mines within South America (Bolivia) and also was the manager for the Stage II study for a $330M sulfide mill with full autonomy to execute the $7.9M budget.

Corporate Office - Barrick

In 2007 Audra was recruited by Barrick to work as a Senior Manager in Engineering, cooperate office.  While at Barrick, she led a team of experienced engineers/operators in support of 17 worldwide open pit mines.  Accountable for budget submissions, cost saving strategies, design optimization scheduling packages, as well as completing operational audits to capture future opportunities, planning and executing site improvements, conducting follow-up on key items and training and tracking of success.  She also worked with regional teams on incorporating strategic planning into the business cycle for open pit mines by putting into place guidelines, reviewing strategic software, and setting up reviews.  

A2Z Mining Inc. – President and CEO

In the fall of 2010, Audra founded A2Z Mining Inc., a private consulting company, to deliver strategic advice on asset development and optimization, mine planning and team setup, project management and execution, and business planning set- up to help mining companies with tracking actuals vs. budgets.  Audra supported major, mid-tier and junior mining companies, such as Barrick, HudBay, Seabridge, Teranga and Agnico Eagle

Minera S.A. – President, CEO and Board

In 2012, Audra accepted the position of President and CEO of Minera S.A., a private mining company based in Washington, DC.  At Minera, Audra lead the development of corporate strategy, development, exploration and commercial activities that are process-driven to mitigate risk and enhance value.  During her two-year tenure, Audra received board approval of the strategy and executed that strategy to manage Minera’s privately held exploration and development properties, and the majority position of a public gold and copper operating company. It was during this tenure that Audra became a member of the Orvana Minerals board of directors, a position she holds to this date. Sierra Metals Inc – President, CEO and Board Member In 2014, Audra was presented the opportunity to become the President and CEO of Sierra Metals Inc., a TSX listed company.  Audra was hired to move the company forward, strategically, technically and operationally, responsible for all marketing, and brought in a new CFO to ensure compliance with all standards

2015

In 2015, Audra transitioned back to the President and CEO of A2Z Mining Inc.
