John P. Walsh

Financial Planning & Analysis

John P. Walsh provides financial planning and analysis for A2Z Mining, Inc.  His professional experience includes early stage capital projects, compliance, auditing, budgeting and forecasting. Over the course of his career, he has held titles as Project Controller, Regional Business Planning Manager and Internal Audit Manager. John graduated from St. Bonaventure University in Allegany, New York with a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration as an Accounting major.  After graduating from St. Bonaventure, John worked for local accounting firm Buffamante Whipple Buttafaro PC as an internal auditor, assisting in auditing and planning individual tax returns.

Senior Auditor

In 1996 he joined Rhode, Scripter and Associates in Boulder, Colorado as a Senior Auditor, where he assisted in planning and performing audits.  While reporting to the Audit Manager, he performed compilations of various entities seeking bank financing and audits included the United Way and the largest dairy farm in the United States.  John joined Newmont Mining Company in 1999 as an Internal Auditor, responsible for performing audits in various departments for varied projects including the Joint Operating Agreement with Barrick in Nevada.  He was promoted to Accounting Superintendent the following year and was responsible for compliance of PTNNT, PNTMR and NPN.  He was also responsible for Property and Project Accounting of PTNNT with assets over $2 billion as well as capital projects with a value of over $50 million yearly.

Accounting Superintendent

In 2002 John began working as the Accounting Superintendent in Indonesia, reporting to the Finance Director.  In addition to his compliance responsibilities, he performed operational audits in the areas of Finance, Supply Chain and External Relations.  He was also responsible for Loan Compliance with US EXIM, KFW and JBIC banks for PTNNT.  At the time, Newmont’s Indonesian loans amounted to $1 billion between three banks. In 2006 John accepted the position of Internal Audit Manager, where he managed SOx 404 compliance in Peru, developed and maintained the audit plan, reviewing and testing.  He managed operation audits in South America, managed the SOx spreadsheet compliance worldwide in addition to executing audits.  Just over two years later he was promoted to Regional Business Planning Manager for South.  In this role he was responsible to manage budgeting and forecasting for South America, manage the implementation of Hyperion for South America and was involved in financial due diligence on new projects and potential acquisitions.

Project Controller

Upon returning to North America, John worked at Barrick Gold Corporation as a Project Controller.  As Project Controller he managed Accounting, Finance, Controls, IT, Contracts, Procurement and Legal functions in early stage capital projects.  Projects ranged in size from $1 – 3 billion dollars.  Yearly spending during early stage was approximately $500 - $100 million dollars. In 2012 John joined A2Z Mining, Inc.   He offers budgeting, compliance, auditing, due diligence and planning services.
