Neb later took on the role of Mine Geologist at the newly discovered Western Extension and then as Senior Mine Geologist at the Fosterville Gold Project near Bendigo. Neb played a pivotal role in the Fosterville transformation from a shallow open pit heap leach operation to a 100koz per year underground BIOX operation making it the largest producer in the state today.
Neb moved from some of the smallest operations to one of the biggest in 1999 when he joined Newmont at its Batu Hijau Copper-Gold project in Indonesia. Neb was part of the team that successfully took the project through commissioning and honed his in skills in resource estimation, reconciliation and geo-metallurgy once the project reached steady state. In 2004 Neb moved to Newmont’s Yanacocha Gold Mine in Peru, in 2005, Yanacocha was the single largest gold producer in the world with an output of 3.3Moz In mid-2006 Neb returned to Australia and began the process of setting up a consultancy along with joining the board of directors of a small gold explorer Republic Gold Limited which had projects in North Queensland, Bolivia and New South Wales. The project in New South Wales, Burraga Copper, is currently the flagship project for Elysium Resources.
